Description

Left Goole second ship, first from Victoria Lock. Strong Westerly wind. Visibility good between showers. Strong Westerly wind increased to gale at day light.

Steered ExS½S and passed 1' off Dowsing, then E½S passed 8' off Borkum. E½S passed 1½' off Norderney then E¼S made Elbe I right ahead.

A very heavy high following sea all the way across. Thick with rain in squalls.

Four elephants. One horse and one dog. Also 3 saloon and 3 deck passengers.


Return Voyage

Fine clear run down the river, some slight snow showers, winds light and variable.

Reduced speed to 10 knots at Elbe I.

W¼N to Borkum then W½N for 11 hours then W¼N. Made Outer Dowsing bearing West. Altered course W½N and passed 1' off. Fresh SE choppy sea, clear. Altered course W-N and made Light Vessel right ahead.

Vessels for Goole was held up by fog this Sunday morning tide, including Dearne. But we had it clear. Fine clear run from Hull to Goole 2¾ hours from RSQ to being moored in West Dock.
